Clogged Kitchen Drain
Do not rinse fats or cooking oils down the drain. Liquid fats solidify in the cold drain pipes and create clogs. If this is the cause of your problem, simply pour boiling water down the drain. Wait a few minutes then use a plunger. For double-bowl sinks, hold down a drain stopper in one bowl while you plung the other side.
To Extend The Life of Your Garbage Disposal
Use plenty of cold water when running; don't over load; never dispose of bones, corn husks or stringy fibrous material; never use a caustic drain opener, and always use tongs or pliers to free objects from the disposal - don't use your hands.
Check Under Your Sinks For Moisture or Small Leaks
Leaks under sinks should be repaired quickly to avoid damage to cabinets and floors.
Bathtub Clogs
Try plunging the drain, but stuff a rag in or cover the overflow so you don't blow the air out. Use a strainer in the bathroom drains. This will prevent hair and soap pieces from causing clogs.
Plugged Toilet
For a small to moderate clog, use a plunger. For a more stubborn clog, it is possible to although slightly risky to use a closet auger. If the toilet is clogged and overflowing, do not try to flush. Turn off the toilet's water supply using the knob on the water supply pipe under the toilet.
